Reflective Narrative
The WLC 400: Major Capstone is a class that fulfills the University Requirements for students in the World Languages and Cultures department. It is the final step towards completing our capstone and is designed for both Japanese and Spanish majors. This class fulfills the MLO 4 requirement for research and technology, mainly because the class is dedicated entirely to research and learning to use technology effectively in order to gather data and present in class. In order to finish our review of literature, we learned the best methods for attaining relevant information and identifying good sources to gather data from, such as the CSUMB library database. Also, we learned how to use Google forms in order to create and distribute our surveys which is key towards completing our capstone project. I had never used Google Forms before this class, and it was a valuable technology to learn to use because the skills used to create a Google Form can by applied elsewhere as well. Once we were able to collect enough data via Google Forms, we analyzed it and put it together with out review of literature to create our final power point presentation. In order to create an effective presentation, we also got many tips on how to make our power point better suited for a larger audience. For example, we learned the ideal font size, colors to avoid, and even how to make appealing bar graphs on Microsoft Excel.
This class was extremely helpful completing the last bit of research required for my capstone project. The class provided us with many opportunities to practice in front of classmates, receive constructive criticism, and generally improve our presentation. Our instructors also worked tirelessly in order to make sure our capstone presentation and script was as good as it could be, and made sure we were on the right track. With the support and knowledge I received in this class I was able to put together my capstone presentation and script.
