Reflective Narrative
This course was an introductory course for our capstone project, which is a graduation requirement for all student studying at CSUMB. In this class I was able to pair up with my Capstone partner and develop a research topic in order to begin our Capstone project. In this class we were taught effective methods of research and organizational skills that we would need to know as we continued to develop our Capstone project.
The topic that my partner and myself chose for our Capstone is "Perceptions of Nuclear Energy among University Students". The way we decided to go about this topic was to do a comparative study between Americans and Japanese natives. With the 2011 Fukushima Daiichi disaster still fresh in everyone's mind, there was a lot of information about all facets of nuclear energy. Through the EBSCO Host database I was able to gather a wide assortment of information to use as background research for my topic.
This course helped me to develop my analytic skills by requiring me to read academic articles and understand every bit of information that they were trying to convey in their research. Additionally, I was required to formulate, refine, and maintain research questions and related topics that were directly related to my Capstone.
My favorite of the course was being able to use Google Forms which we used to create our surveys that we would distribute to people. It was a fun way to learn how to create and distribute an academic survey. It was also a valuable chance to learn about a technology that I would not have otherwise known about.
